Still on My Mind #8

Still on My Mind is a weekly meme, featured on Thursday, started by Haley over at Ya-Aholic, where you discuss a book you've either recently read, or read over the past few years, that's still on your mind.

This week's Still on My Mind is...

Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)
I know this is a sequel, but to be honest this book is the reason why I really liked Suzanne Collin's novels The Hunger Games.  This book had so much action, was interesting from beginning until end, and kept me on my toes through out.  I liked the first and third in the series, but they got to be a bit much for me sometimes.  This is a tough series, psychologically, speaking in my opinion.  I've discussed it recent posts (Like THIS one!).

Since everyone around the world, pretty much, knows about what happens in at least the first book in the series, I don't think this Goodreads description will be too much of a giveaway of what happened in the first book:

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol-- a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before... and surprising readers at every turn.

This is honestly one of those series where I don't want to say I loved it, but I enjoyed reading it.  It got to be  really tough for me once in a while; but overall it was a great story idea.  This book series seems to appeal to SO many groups of people, and positively!  I've heard a lot less controversy around this series than either the Harry Potter franchise and Twilight had.  (However, I will admit I'm totally WAY more into HP & Twi!)

So that's it for this week's Still on My Mind!
Thanks everyone for tuning in! :)

  2. I love all three HG books, but my favorite was the first one ;) Agree with you though, that this one has a lot of fast paced action, and I guess the Quarter Quell was just gruesome! But anyway, it was a fabulous read! :)
